Things I want to change or get better at in 2018

2018 changes

My very first blog post last year was about my goals for 2017. I managed to achieve them more or less, though half way through the year, I realised that some of the things I had put on my list didn’t have high priority anymore and they started to become a chore rather than something I liked doing. This is why I am not going to set hard goals per se. Rather, I am aiming to change or improve a few things this year.

Et voilà, here are a few of the changes, big and small:

  • Trust my gut
  • Do more with/talk to people I love and like more frequently
  • Have a calming morning and evening routine
  • No scrolling of social media in bed (morning and evening)
  • Speak up about things I believe in (online and offline)
  • Read 1 book per month
  • Listen to more music
  • Do more yoga/stretching to avoid injuries

I wasn’t entirely honest when I said I didn’t have a hard goal this year. There is one and that is: Travel.
Specifically, travelling for about 6 months in South East Asia. The countries currently on the list are: Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia (Papua), Vietnam, New Zealand and Australia.

It’ll take the majority of my time this year to plan and then go on the trip, which is why I also want to keep it simple this year. To keep me from being overwhelmed and unnecessarily stressed, I am going to stick to the changes I have already made last year, I like and that have worked well for me.

But back to the trip; everything is at the beginning stage of planning, so would love to hear any tips or advice (places to stay, eat, see) for any of the above-mentioned countries. If you’d like to share publicly, feel free to leave a comment below.

thailand, if partying really isnt your focus, and i suspect it isnt, there is a beach on Koh Phangan called Hin Kong. there, a small 5 or 6 hut bar/restaurant called Freeway bar has very affordable cabanas with hot (optional) and cold water rooms. It’s nice, though gets noisy some nights when there is live music, but it is generally extremely relaxing. I would call it a must.
Logistically its practical of you have a scooter cause its halfway on the north/south route so you reach all the interesting bits easily.
For these islands, depending on timeschedule and budget, id consider flying. I did and it felt like weeeeell worth it. Night train with a bed from bangkok could be an option too, but it seemed such a hassle to figure it out.
For the background: I was on a two weeks trip and I did bangkok> Koh Samui (flight) > Koh Tao (by boat, seriously rocky, met Tanguy there and passed my PADI) > Koh Phangan (boat) > Koh Samui (boat) > Bangkok (flight).
